LOUD and dramatic battle re-enactments will light up Kemble airfield as part of one of the UK's largest military shows.

The military-themed event is taking place between Friday, June 27, and Sunday, June 29.

The three days will be packed with exhibits and special events and will feature displays of military armour in the live arena.

Last year, the aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was one of the highlights of the show and, in what is the 90th anniversary year of the RAF, it returns with a Dakota fly-past on June 28. On each of the three days, there will be a small air display of military aircraft.

On the ground, more than 800 military and classic vehicles will be displayed - armoured vehicles, Jeeps, classic cars and motorcycles.

Members of the Military Vehicle Trust (MVT), which will celebrate its 40th anniversary at the show, will own many of the vehicles which range from pre-First World War to the present day. There will a First World War field kitchen in operation and demonstrations of cooking wartime recipes. There will also be 1930s dancing in period costumes by Gloster Jive and Swing - whose founders, Gary and Sara Boon are the UK's Lindy Hop champions.

And many army regiments and wartime veterans, including Chelsea Pensioners, will be at the show together with military bands.

Show director John Keedwell said: "Each year, we make the show bigger and better and for 2008 we've surpassed ourselves.

"Kemble is definitely the best military show in the south west and now one of the largest in the country."

Admission for the show on Friday is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. Under fives get in free.

Entry on Saturday and Sunday is £7 for adults and £4 for concessions. Tickets only available at the show.
