REBECCA Cole is in the running to be crowned Miss England.

The accountancy student, from Stratton, was officially crowned by the current Miss England at the Old Bank on Sunday.

Now the 23-year-old believes she has a chance of making the final because there are a lot of pretty girls out there "but few have the brains to match the beauty".

She was named Miss Swindon after judges could not decide between her and Fadwa Boutorfas - so they chose them both - naming Fadwa Miss Wiltshire.

Rebecca says she found out about winning the title two weeks ago, but has refused to stop calling organisers, because she thought they were going to change their minds.

"Until I got my sash and my crown I just didn't believe that I had actually won," she said.

"It was a surreal feeling.

"I didn't tell any of my friends because I thought they would change their mind."

But now that she has the crown she is ready to fight for the title of Miss England for Swindon.

She said: "I really want to do well in this competition for Swindon.

"We have Jamie Cox, Melinda Messenger, XTC and Billie Piper.

"We have a lot going for us and it is time to get some credit and get our name out there.

"I think I have a chance at Miss England because they don't just judge the winner on beauty and the way you look.

"They also weigh a certain amount on your poise and your brain.

"My talent as Miss Swindon will be painting portraits for example."

The New College student added that although she has won this title, she wants to be more than just Miss Swindon.

She added: "I am going to be doing a lot for charity in my spare time and am happy to work for free for anyone who would like me to be the face of their campaign.

"I plan on giving blood in the near future, and running the Swindon half marathon in October for cancer research."

And for all you suitors out there Miss Swindon says that although she has "someone special" she does not have a boyfriend.

She reckons that the most attractive thing in any man is determination.

Rebecca will be competing in the Miss England semi-finals on June 16 and 17 at Champney's Health Spa in London.

this story sucks. BIG TIME. Lets have some more crack houses raided or another bicycle stolen for the third time.

The deserve it?? For doing what exactly? Dressing up like tarts and parading themselves in front of a bunch of over-sexed middle aged men.
And they don't judge Miss England just on the way you look?! Course not hun!
The adver must be getting desperate.

Im sure that the girls involved are all very intelligent and want to be brain surgeons or work with animals and children. At least they are not fat ugly muffin topped chavettes with no education, no intelligence and no prospects other than producing the next kid to claim more benefits for. Give these girls a break.

Captain Sensible has a point. Maybe if more kids nowadays had something to work towards (regardless of whether its a beauty pagent or a law degree) then there would be less of them out on the streets, attacking and robbing people! Just a thought....

I know that a beauty pageant may not seem the most important thing in the world, but I think it's nice that we have a lovely looking intelligent girl representing Swindon. It's about time we had someone like Rebecca trying to banish the tarnished image of Swindon as being home to the UK Chav Army and teenage pregnancy club.

You go for it girl and do us proud!

I have just looked at the photos in detail. Miss England is truly gorgeous but Ms Cole is actually rather ugly. She has a hideous fake tan, rabbit teeth and her forehead very high.

This is a good opportunity for a lot of money to be raised for charities and good luck to everyone concerned. Fadwa has already been helping us with charities in England and across the world for years.

On behalf of thousands of the Trowbridge East Residents Group Sarah Jane Newbury our chair and I as vice chair turned up to see the crowning taking with us the vice president of the cricket club Roy Bence (who is also a committee member of the residents group) and a representative for the fire brigade and a member of the Sarah Jane Newbury Angels group, a local Doctor. The Angels group is funded entirely by the members and has helped many needy children, people and animals across the world for three years. Fadwa is also a professional university student member of the Angels Group.

We were impressed to see all the girls and supporters were polite to eachother.

We have both known Fadwa who was born in Trowbridge since she was born and we and our groups love her very much and know her to be punctual, honest, intelligent, kind, pure, diplomatic, a good example, a good public speaker, works well as a team member and from a very nice and respected family.

Sarah jane Newbury has asked me to thank the Old Bank Brasserie, the organisers, the media and all the girls, supporters and others involved in making the afternoon such a nice happy easter Sunday.

Many supporters from Wiltshire aim to go to the final in July and we hope whichever lady is chosen to represent England, as they are all english, that they will be a genuine, sincere person that will be gracious and hardworking as Miss England for the year setting a good example and helping many along the way. The ladies all look of a good calibre and we hope one of them will become Miss World.

God bless everyone.

In my eyes(and im sure plenty of others) these girls are incredibly attractive, but do you know something that isnt? jealousy? why do people have to write such nasty comments about someone that is sucessful in achieving their dream? Becky is a good friend of mine and not only beautiful on the outside. 'terence' its comments like yours that make me sick, who are you to judge someone you have never met? I am proud to have someone like becky representing swindon and its not just about looking pretty, these girls went through a very tough process to get where they are now, not only based on their looks but personality too.Keep up the good work. Love you Becks!! x

Terence obviously has an ugly girlfriend or wife and is just taking cheap shots at the attactive girls out there cos he cant get them!
Give them a break pal... Theres no need to get so personal about somebody you dont know!
Well done Becky!!
