A busy road beside a Swindon school has been left flooded and the nearby grass waterlogged after a pipe burst.

Marlowe Avenue runs alongside the Holy Family Catholic Primary and Nursery School in Park North.

The road is usually very busy with parents using it to take their children to and from school twice a day.

On Wednesday morning the water main burst, leading to the road and surrounding area being badly affected by the overflowing water.

“The bus stop is being used by Thames Water and there are temporary traffic signals.”

Cars could be seen struggling to wade through the excess water throughout Tuesday morning as Thames Water staff worked at the site.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We responded to reports of burst water main on Marlowe Avenue in the morning of Wednesday 22 March.

"Our engineers are currently working to replace the burst pipe. Two way traffic lights will remain in place until work is completed later on this evening.

"We are sorry to customers whose supply has been interrupted during this time. Our customer representatives are on site with bottled water should residents need it."
