A motorway sign that has incorrectly displayed the name 'Royal Wootton Bassett' for a long time has finally been fixed.
For months thousands have passed the defective sign in between junctions 15 and 16 f the M4 to head towards the Wiltshire town, which has instead been called 'Rnehan Wootton Bassett'
This was because the sign used to say Lyneham and then Wootton Bassett, but when the town's name changed National Highways used a sticker, which had fallen off at some point.
Councillor Mike Davies first reported the 'slightly odd' sign that had 'been wrong for ages' in July 2023.
But several months later, he has shared an update finally revealing that with the support of South Swindon MP, it has been corrected and the town that was given Royal status by the Queen is finally Royal again.
He said: "Sometimes casework is just about bloody-mindedness and not giving up on something, so pleased to get this M4 sign sorted after about a year! Thanks to Robert Buckland for the support in chasing up."
